Super Bowl LIX will feature a halftime performance from rapper Kendrick Lamar.
That news was announced on Sunday morning just ahead of Week 1 of the 2024-25 season. The Super Bowl, scheduled for Feb. 9, 2025, will take place in New Orleans.
Here’s the official announcement from the NFL:

Kendrick also shared a video announcing his plans to be the halftime performer.
“My name is Kendrick Lamar and I’ll be performing at Super Bowl 59,” he says in the video below. “Will you be pulling up? I hope so. You know there’s only 1 opportunity to win a championship. No round twos … I wouldn’t want you to miss it. Meet me in New Orleans. Feb. 9, 2025.”
Kendrick has been in the spotlight for much of this year, most notably for his ongoing feud with Drake. Kendrick’s song “Not Like Us” has been one of the world’s most-streamed new songs in 2024.
Recent Super Bowl halftime show headliners include Usher, Rihanna and Shakira. Kendrick was also a featured performer for the halftime show for Super Bowl LVI in 2021. Other artists such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Eminem and 50 cent were also part of that performance.
With this announcement, Kendrick is making history in a few different ways. He’ll become the first rapper to solo headline a Super Bowl halftime show. He’s also set to become the first rapper to appear during Super Bowl halftime productions.
