Tom Brady showed that not all rivalries have to be bitter by attending Peyton Manning’s Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Brady’s show of sportsmanship and camaraderie, however, did not spare him from getting booed by the Canton, Ohio crowd.
Manning appeared to be disappointed that the Hall trimmed the time on acceptance speeches. He used the shortened enshrinement speeches as a setup for a joke about Brady being an ageless wonder. The mere mention of Brady, however, led to boos from the crowd.
Brady took the boos well, and Manning went on with his joke.
“By the time he is inducted, in his first year of eligibility in the year of 2035, he’ll only have time to post his acceptance speech on his Instagram account.”
The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s bylaws state that a player becomes eligible when he “has not played or been on an active regular- or post-season player roster for five consecutive seasons.”
Brady turned 44 on Aug. 3. He looked pretty impressive at age 43 bringing another Super Bowl to Tampa Bay, but we’ll probably see him in the Hall a few years ahead of 2035.
