Tua Tagovailoa’s starting job in jeopardy? Dolphins are reportedly frontrunner for blockbuster trade

Tua Tagovailoa has looked better this preseason after an up-and-down rookie season with the Miami Dolphins in 2020.
However, the Dolphins might be looking to make a big splash on the trade market ahead of Week 1, and it would put Tagovailoa’s job in jeopardy.
Per Charles Robinson of Yahoo, the Dolphins are the frontrunner to trade for Houston Texans’ superstar Deshaun Watson. Of course, Watson is reportedly being investigated by the FBI at the moment, so that could prove to be a snag in the trade process:
Thread. Sources tell @yahoosports the #Dolphins have emerged as the frontrunner in trade discussions with the #Texans for QB Deshaun Watson. The Texans are seeking 3 first-round picks and 2 second-round picks in negotiations, according to a team that dropped out of trade talks.

Sources said teams have angled for pick protections in any trade, to mitigate a potential #NFL suspension or criminal prosecution tied to ongoing investigations by the FBI, Harris County prosecutor and Houston PD, into sexual assault allegations from multiple women.

If Watson does end up in Miami, Tagovailoa is probably out of a job. Whether he’d be sent to the Texans to compete for that starting job or whether he’d be relegated to a backup role in Miami.
Of course, as Robinson notes, there are still many obstacles to overcome in this tricky trade process.
