My Picks for NFL Week 1
Patrick Mahomes higher than 0.5 passing yards. Come on. This is the easiest win in the history of easy wins. Mahomes will have 1 passing yard by the end of his first pass attempt, most likely. Even if that somehow falls incomplete, you know he’s good for a yard or 2 before the game is over. Take the easy victory here.
Skyy Moore higher than 38.5 receiving yards. Someone other than Travis Kelce is going to need to catch passes for the Chiefs this year. Kelce should be good on Thursday night, too, but his number is a bit too high for my liking. Skyy Moore seems to be the top receiver for the Chiefs through the preseason. Expect him to get a few looks and finish with 50 or so receiving yards.
Alexander Mattison higher than 0.5 rushing+receiving touchdowns. The Vikings are a popular pick to regress after a 13-4 regular-season record in 2022. Mattison takes over for Dalvin Cook as the RB1 in Minnesota, so a lot of pressure is on his shoulders. Still, even if the Vikings struggle in 2023, they start the year against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are expected to be awful this season. Mattison will find pay dirt at least once.
Lamar Jackson higher than 216.5 passing yards. Lamar Jackson got paid this offseason. Now the pressure is on to deliver on that massive contract. I expect a big year from him in Todd Monken’s offense. He gets to start the year against the Houston Texans, who were absolutely awful last season. Look for him to finish with well over 216.5 passing yards on Sunday.
