David Stone reportedly suffered injury during Sooners’ Monday practice

Oklahoma defensive tackle David Stone, considered one of the best defenders in the SEC, suffered a lower-body injury during practice on Monday, according to a report from SoonerScoop.com’s George Stoia.
Stone’s status for Week 4’s matchup at Georgia is in question, according to the report. Further testing is underway, so expect more news on Stone’s condition in the coming days. It’s worth noting that Oklahoma HC Brent Venables is set to meet with media on Tuesday for his weekly press conference.
Off to a strong start to his 2026 campaign, Stone was the key cog in a defensive effort that saved the Sooners from taking a second straight loss Saturday night against New Mexico. Stone led all Sooners defenders in tackles (8) and tackles for loss (2), adding half a sack for good measure. The Sooners, as they did last year, currently lead the SEC in tackles for loss with 26 through the first 3 weeks of the season.
Obviously, this is tough news for a Sooners squad that has little margin for error heading into a road contest at Sanford Stadium. With Stone’s status up in the air, expect reserve linemen such as Jayden Jackson, Trent Wilson and Bishop Thomas to get some run along the Sooners defensive line.
