A high school basketball coach in North Carolina was killed in a shootout with a Mexican drug cartel, WCNC Charlotte reports.

WCNC’s report states that Barney Harris, a high school basketball coach in Union County died on last week in a shootout with a drug cartel in Alamance County. Per WCNC, Alamance County Sheriff’s Office investigators said Harris and his brother-in-law went to a stash house in Alamance County last week to steal money and drugs from the cartel.

Per the reports, Harris and his brother-in-law, killed a drug runner during the home invasion before the shootout started. Harris was found inside the house shot multiple times, wearing a bulletproof vest. Stewart was arrested and has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree burglary.

The sheriff’s office reportedly seized five firearms, about $7,000 in cash, and 1.2 kilograms of suspected cocaine.
