High school football game in Alabama shut down after shooting outside stadium

A shooting shut down a high school football game in Alabama as one man was shot.

Per multiple reports, a man was shot in the buttocks from gunfire that is thought to have come from an abandoned house near Birmingham’s Fairfield Preparatory School. The man was thought to be tailgating near Fairfield, which was hosting Jackson-Olin High School. The game was in overtime when the sound of multiple gunshots rang out. The game was suspended and both teams were sent home.

The scene was described by some as chaotic. Fans, players and coaches fled the area. The man who was shot was taken to a local Birmingham hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Fairfield was leading the game 26-20. It is unclear if the game will be finished.
