Another Maryland online sports betting app has launched in the Old Line State.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission today issued a mobile sports wagering license to SuperBook, which officially became the ninth online sportsbook to launch in the state.
SuperBook joins Maryland sports betting scene
The Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) approved the online sports betting operator license for SuperBook Sports in February.
On April 11, SuperBook successfully completed the necessary controlled demonstration of its online sports betting platform. Customers participated in live wagering as Maryland Lottery and Gaming staff ensured the sportsbook complied with all required procedures and that its systems functioned properly.
There are currently nine live online sportsbooks in the state:
- Barstool Sportsbook
- Betfred Sportsbook
- BetMGM
- BetRivers
- Caesars Sportsbook
- DraftKings
- FanDuel
- PointsBet
- SuperBook
These are joined by 10 retail sportsbooks in the state:
- Bingo World in Brooklyn Park
- Greenmount Station in Hampstead
- Hollywood Casino in Perryville
- Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore
- Live! Casino in Hanover
- Long Shot’s in Frederick
- Maryland Stadium Sub at FedEx Field in Landover
- MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill
- Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin
- Riverboat on the Potomac in Charles County
FedEx Field, home of the Washington Commanders, recently opened the first retail sportsbook to be located directly in an NFL stadium. The Commanders reached an agreement with Fanatics Betting and Gaming to operate the facility.
March profitable for sports betting
March was the most profitable month for Maryland sports betting, according to Maryland Lottery and Gaming. The state set a new record with $5.3 million in sports betting tax revenue, an 89% increase from its pervious high of $2.79 million in February.
“There are a few events on the calendar that really drive sports wagering participation, and the NCAA basketball tournament every March is right at the top of that list,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin in a press release. “This was the first time that mobile wagering on March Madness was available in Maryland, and as our market continues to mature we’re pleased to see it generate a strong contribution to education funding.”
Statewide handle for the month totaled $385,967,195, with online sports betting accounting for 95.9% of the total handle. Online sports betting account for $5.1 million in sports betting tax revenue, while retail sportsbooks contributed $198,953.
