The long, hard wait is over for Rory McIlroy with the star golfer finally completing his victory at The Masters.
On Sunday, McIlroy started off with a rough first hole, but quickly responded to build a 4-stroke lead over the competition. It would not just be smooth sailing from there, squandering the 4-stroke lead and bogeying the final hole to set up a playoff vs. Justin Rose for the title.
Ultimately, McIlroy delivered a flawless 1st playoff hole to knock off Rose and win the coveted green jacket. The immediate aftermath was one of the best scenes in sports with McIlroy overcome by joy and emotion in celebrating his victory.
The walk from the 18th green to the clubhouse was a jubilant scene for McIlroy. He stopped along the way to celebrate with family and friends, relishing in the pinnacle of his career-defining victory.
As McIlroy eventually turned to head to the clubhouse for good, he dropped a brilliant one-liner that was picked up on a hot mic for CBS’s broadcast:
“I’ve gotta go get a green jacket,” an exhausted but victorious McIlroy quipped to his excited fans.
Throughout the broadcast, CBS received positive remarks on social media for the way they allowed McIlroy’s celebration to have its moment on-air. It was truly a captivating moment, punctuated by McIlroy’s perfect line for the hot mic.
