Mitch Jeter nailed a game-winning 41-yard field goal on Thursday night to secure a 27-24 win for Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl.

The kick sends the Fighting Irish back to the national championship game of the College Football Playoff where they will meet either Ohio State or Texas. It’s Notre Dame’s first appearance in the national championship game since the end of the 2012 season.

Here’s a replay of Jeter’s big kick, with ESPN’s Sean McDonough on the call:

His kick went through the uprights with just 7 seconds remaining in the game. The Nittany Lions tried to setup a Hail Mary to end the game, but were unsuccessful.

Jeter’s kick was set up by an interception by Penn State quarterback Drew Allar. He was picked off by Christian Gray with just 33 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter.

Jeter is in his first season at Notre Dame. He transferred from South Carolina to spend his graduate season in South Bend in 2024. Prior to that make, Jeter went just 11-of-18 on field goal attempts this season. However, he’s made 5 kicks in a row — including the game-winner in the Orange Bowl.

Notre Dame will now await the winner of Ohio State and Texas in the national championship game on Jan. 20.
