Notre Dame to open as underdog in national title vs. Ohio State or Texas
Notre Dame defeated Penn State 27-24 in the Orange Bowl on Thursday night, but the Fighting Irish are set to be an underdog in the national championship game regardless of who wins the other semifinal matchup.
Notre Dame will await the winner of Friday night’s Cotton Bowl between Texas and Ohio State. In either case, Notre Dame is set to be the underdog.
Per FanDuel, Notre Dame would be a 9.5-point dog against Ohio State and a 2.5-point dog against Texas. While the matchup is not official, bettors can still place bets on those hypothetical matchups. If the game does not take place, the bet will be void.

Ohio State is a considerable favorite over Texas on Friday night in the Cotton Bowl. The Buckeyes are favored by 5.5 points, per FanDuel.
Notre Dame’s only loss on the season remains to Northern Illinois, which came back in Week 2. The Fighting Irish have now won 3 College Football Playoff games as well and will compete in the national championship for the first time since the end of the 2012 season.
Kickoff for that game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 20 from Atlanta.
