Paul Finebaum, like many college football fans across the country, could not believe that Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes lost to Michigan for the 4th consecutive time this past weekend.

The Buckeyes were 21-point favorites heading into The Game, but the Wolverines were able to secure the 13-10 win. With the loss, Day moved to 1-4 against Michigan, and 47-1 against the rest of the Big Ten.

People all across the sport are voicing their displeasure with the Buckeyes coach, with many fans clamoring for him to be fired. Finebaum similarly blasted Day for the performance by Ohio State in The Game during his weekly conversation with ESPN’s Matt Barrie.

“We were almost joking in the off-season that there was a path to Day being fired,” Finebaum said. “To lose to Michigan and to not win the National Championship, and here we are. It reminds me of a couple years ago when you wanted to write Ohio State off, but you can’t.

“It is one thing to take a game lightly. This is different. This is the biggest game of the year in college football, and they still can’t figure out how to win it. Ryan Day comes up with this idiotic statement (about planting the flag) about how we aren’t going to let them do that to our field. Try and beat them first, Ryan.”

While he was calling out the Buckeyes for that loss, Finebaum still isn’t ready to say the Buckeyes can’t win the National Championship.

“Two years ago, they lost to Michigan and came right back and had a 2-touchdown lead over Georgia in the 4th quarter,” Finebaum said. “The old columnist in me wants to write the column fire the coach, but you can’t do it. You can’t do anything. I can believe that they will win the national championship. Just because they took off the biggest day of the year in college football doesn’t mean they can’t come back.”

Ohio State now has to wait to see if it will be in the CFP, but the talk won’t die down until Dec. 9.
