Brent Venables shared injury updates on a couple of key offensive players on Monday night.

Oklahoma is banged up on the offensive side of the ball, particularly at wide receiver and offensive line.

The Sooners may soon be getting back some reinforcements at receiver. Per Venables, Nic Anderson is nearing a return to the lineup and could feature in OU’s game plan as early as Week 3 against Tulane.

However, the news is not as good for center Geirean Hatchett. Venables said Hatchett recently had bicep surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season.

Anderson is expected to be one of Oklahoma’s top wide receivers when healthy. He earned a starting job midway through the 2023 season and finished the year with 798 yards and 10 touchdowns. Andrel Anthony is another receiver that Oklahoma is hoping to get back soon as he recovers from a longterm knee injury. Jayden Gibson has already been ruled out for the season after he suffered a knee injury in fall camp.

Hatchett started OU’s season-opener at left guard but moved over to center after Branson Hickman went down with an injury against Temple. Neither lineman was able to play in the Sooners’ narrow win over Houston. Starting right tackle Jake Taylor is also banged up and it’s unclear if he will be 100% for OU’s Week 3 contest against Tulane.

Another option at center, Troy Everett, wasn’t able to dress out in OU’s Week 2 game vs. Houston. That means the Sooners relied on a fourth-string center in Joshua Bates against the Cougars, and may have to do so again in Week 3 if Hickman isn’t able to go.

Kickoff against Tulane on Saturday is set for 3:30 p.m. ET.
