When it comes to placement of the student section and band, Ole Miss’s setup at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium hasn’t made much sense the past few years.

Now, though, things could be improving for the gameday experience under new AD Keith Carter, who has taken over on an interim basis after Ross Bjork left for Texas A&M.

This week, Carter said the student section would remain in the north end zone this fall, but improvements could be coming soon (via 247Sports):

“First and foremost, for this year, the students will stay in the north,” Carter told the Ole Miss Spirit. “That’s going to happen. We hear the students. We understand that there’s concern. We want to do some things to hopefully make that experience better for them.

“We’re looking at creating more social areas for the students, so they can hang out and enjoy the game, but also something with more of a social aspect. I think in baseball, and even in basketball with Club Red, you have more of a social aspect. I think that’s something we’ve got to figure out with the student section in football, as well.”

As for the band, Carter said they’ll be placed in a more prominent section this fall:

“Almost directly behind the goal posts,” said Carter. “That will allow them to hopefully have a little better amplification and be able to be heard a little better throughout the stadium. We want to get them in the middle of the student section, so they can kind of get that group going and get them fired up. We know that leads to our total environment being a lot better.”

How that affects the gameday experience remains to be seen, but it does sound like concerns are being heard and dealt with by the new AD.
