Paul Finebaum feels that the best team in the SEC resides in Oxford, Mississippi.

Ole Miss, No. 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings, was idle during Week 12. Lane Kiffin led the Rebels to their first 11-win season and a first-ever New Year’s 6 bowl game in 2023, and at 8-2 with Florida and Mississippi State left on the regular-season schedule, double-digit wins — along with a first Playoff appearance in program history — looks to be on the table in 2024.

And even though Texas looks on track to be in the SEC Championship in its first season in the conference, Finebaum believes that Ole Miss looks to be the superior team, at least for now. That’s after Texas slipped past Arkansas 20-10 on Saturday.

“I think there’s a debate between Alabama and Ole Miss. I don’t think Texas is the best team. They just don’t look the part. They may end up the champion. But to me, Ole Miss, at the moment, looks the best,” he said on Sunday’s “Matt Barrie Show”.

Based on the previous Playoff rankings, the Rebels would visit Penn State in the first round. We’ll see what changes are made, and what movement is in store for Ole Miss, when the updated rankings are released on Tuesday.
