WLOX of southeast Mississippi recently caught up with Ole Miss great Archie Manning to ask him about the resignation of former coach Hugh Freeze. It was Manning’s first comments since Freeze’s abrupt dismissal following the revelation he made a call to an escort service on an Ole Miss phone.
“I’m sorry what’s happened,” Manning said. “Hugh’s a friend of mine and he’ll continue to be a friend of mine and we’re going to move on.”
Manning also voiced his support for interim coach Matt Luke.
“Matt Luke’s a great young man,” Manning added. “He’s going to do a good job for us. It’s football time, we’re going to get going.”
Ole Miss AD Ross Bjork has said that Luke will be considered as a candidate to land the full-time position. If Manning continues to voice support for Luke, it can only help the coach’s chances of dropping the interim label.
