Tragic news out of Oregon to pass along. Spencer Webb, an Oregon football player, died in an accident Wednesday.

According to an NBC News report, Webb fell and hit his head on rock slides west of Triangle Lake. The lake is about 35 miles west of the University of Oregon campus in Eugene.

Lane County Sheriff’s Office posted about the incident on its Facebook page:

LCSO Case #22-3834 Death Investigation

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the rock slides just a short distance west of Triangle Lake at approximately 2:30pm after receiving the report of an injured person. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 22 year old male recreating in the area fell and struck his head. Bystanders and responding paramedics were unable to revive him. Lane County Sheriff Search and Rescue personnel responded to assist with bringing him back to the roadway as he was approximately 100 yards down a steep trail.

There is no evidence of foul play and his death appears to be accidental. The victim’s name is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification.

Though LCSO withheld the name, the 22-year-old has been confirmed to be Webb.

Webb, from Sacramento, California, was in his fifth season with the Ducks. He used a redshirt in 2018 and Oregon applied his extra season for COVID-19 to his eligibility in 2021, making him a redshirt junior in 2022. Last season, Webb played in 14 games, making 3 starts at tight end. He caught 13 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown. As a redshirt freshman in 2019, Webb had 18 receptions for 209 yards and 3 TDs.
