Postseason basketball is back this year in full swing. Following the reveal of the NCAA Tournament field, the NIT has also announced its 16-team bracket for 2021. Two SEC teams are set to compete for an NIT championship.
Ole Miss, one of the first four teams left out by the selection committee, is a 1-seed in the NIT. The Rebels (16-11) are scheduled to take on Louisiana Tech on Friday in Frisco, Texas.
As noted by Nick Suss of the Clarion Ledger, Ole Miss could potentially be bumped up to the NCAA Tournament as an alternate. The Rebels could only replace a team from a multi-bid conference. If a one-bid conference team has to opt out because of COVID issues, a team from the same conference will serve as the replacement. The deadline for replacement is Tuesday evening.
Mississippi State is in the NIT as a 4 seed. The Bulldogs (15-14) face 1-seed St. Louis on Saturday in Frisco.
