The AP Top 25 for Week 5 has been released.
The SEC has 9 teams included in the top 25 this week. Texas retained the No. 1 spot and there was little movement elsewhere at the top of the poll. The SEC still controls 5 of the top 6 spots in the AP Top 25 after 4 weeks.
After the Longhorns, Georgia remains at No. 2 and Alabama is at No. 4. The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide will meet in Tuscaloosa this weekend in what is sure to be one of the most highly-anticipated games of the entire 2024 season.
Tennessee moved up to No. 5 after its big win over Oklahoma on the road on Saturday night. The Vols were dominant defensively and showed just enough on offense to secure a double-digit win in Norman.
Despite the loss, Oklahoma remained ranked but fell to No. 21 in the polls. The Sooners will look for their first SEC win next weekend on the road at Auburn.
Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU and Texas A&Mare the other SEC teams who appeared in the poll this week.
Over in the Big Ten, that league is represented by 6 teams. That’s one less than it had last week, as Nebraska dropped out after suffering a home loss to Illinois on Friday night. The Fighting Illini are now at No. 19.
Ohio State remains the highest-ranked Big Ten team at No. 3 overall. Oregon and Penn State both held on to their top 10 spots this week.
Michigan moved up substantially to No. 12 following its big win over USC on Saturday. The Wolverines are now 3-1 on the season with their only loss coming to No. 1 Texas. Meanwhile, USC dropped to No. 13 after its loss to Michigan on the road this week.
