If you somehow missed the big news of Wednesday, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer appears to have been caught in a major lie during the latest Big Ten Media Days when it comes to what he knew regarding the domestic abuse allegations facing his former receivers coach Zach Smith.

Meyer fired Smith leading up to Media Days when the latest allegations came out against Smith from 2015. Smith is also accused of domestic violence back in 2009, when he was on Meyer’s Florida staff. Meyer acknowledges he knew about the 2009 claims.

Well, according to a damning report by college football insider Brett McMurphy, Meyer is going to have significant trouble selling that story going forward. According to pictures and text messages obtained by McMurphy, Meyer’s wife Shelley was well aware of the situation and said she would inform her husband. It should also be noted that Smith’s grandfather is Meyer’s mentor.

Following the latest amount of disturbing evidence against Smith provided to McMurphy from his now ex-wife, Smith’s attorney released the following statement to ESPN:

“Zach Smith wants to be as transparent and honest as possible but it is not going to be done today through the media. It will only be after he and his ex-wife are sworn in to testify. Once he gets his chance to tell his side of events, don’t be surprised when it is corroborated by every police who ever responded to Ms. Smith’s calls.”

Ohio State has yet to respond with any statements in response to the report.
