CFP committee criticized for new rankings of Alabama, Miami, Ole Miss, South Carolina

The penultimate College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday evening, and all eyes were on Miami and a trio of 3-loss SEC teams.
Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina all feel that they belong in the 12-team. Miami, a 10-2 ACC squad, also feels it should make the CFP field. Team accounts and representatives of the programs all publicly made their case ahead of Tuesday’s reveal.
Ultimately, Alabama won the desired No. 11 ranking and 11-seed in the projected bracket. No. 12 Miami is the first team out, followed by No. 13 Ole Miss and No. 14 South Carolina.
The Crimson Tide could potentially be bounced by Clemson if the Tigers win the ACC Championship Game over No. 8 SMU. Many prominent college football voices have called on the committee to not punish teams for losing their conference championship games.
As expected, the latest rankings drew many critical reactions on social media. The committee was called out for some noted inconsistencies. There were also accusations of pro-Alabama bias. Here’s a small sample of what was said:
You just knew they’d get Bama in if SMU beats Clemson Saturday pic.twitter.com/3jAe1dwPXt

Dread it. Run from it. Alabama still arrives. https://t.co/Kn5OsZd07Z

Note that Miami dropped farther for losing on the road to an 8-3 team than Ohio State did for losing at home to a 6-5 team (and scoring 10 points).

Let me state loud and clear. South Carolina should be in ahead of Alabama. And I have a 100k future on Bama.

Louisville went from unranked to No. 16 in the selection committee’s rankings after the Cardinals beat Clemson on the road a few weeks ago.
South Carolina moves up ONE spot after doing the same.

#14 for South Carolina is foul

So, just to get it straight:
A win over a Top 12 Clemson team on the road – which feels like a pretty big piece of a resume, especially this time of year – moved South Carolina up… one spot.
A win over 5-6 Auburn at home moved Alabama up… two spots.
THE RIG IS IN!

South Carolina beats the No. 12 team in the country on its home field for its sixth straight win and moves up one spot.

Let me remind you that Georgia dropped 9 spots after losing on the road at Ole Miss.
Ohio State drops 4 spots after losing at home to Michigan.
Consistency from the committee is non-existent.
It was going to happen, but whew

Don’t understand why Bama is ahead of Miami but Ole Miss and South Carolina aren’t

Miami above South Carolina and Ole Miss but not Bama is too perfect

CFP hot takes:
1. The G5 participation trophy was and is stupid.
2. Miami has zero quality wins.
3. Ole Miss has no one to blame but itself, but…
4. Alabama’s 3-TD loss at OU should be disqualifying.
5. Indiana is awful.
6. Ohio State is getting way too much credit.— Neal McCready (@NealMcCready) December 4, 2024
