The word “hero” gets thrown around a lot these days, but for former Oregon WR Keanon Lowe, it absolutely fits.
Lowe had been an NFL assistant coach on Chip Kelly’s staff, but after his best friend died of a drug overdose, he returned to Portland and took a job coaching a local high school team.
It was at that high school that he did something truly heroic. When a student brought a gun to the classroom Lowe was in, he sprung into action, grabbing the gun and hugging the student, allowing others to escape unharmed.
On Saturday, ESPN’s College GameDay ran a fantastic segment about Lowe and the difference he’s making at Parkrose High School:
Earlier this year, former Oregon receiver Keanon Lowe disarmed and embraced a student who brought a gun to Parkrose High School.
But his journey to that moment tells the full story of Lowe’s commitment to helping others.

The Parkrose community is lucky to have a guy like Lowe around. Oh, and the football team he coaches won its first playoff game ever this year.
