College GameDay has made it official. The traveling pregame show is heading to Tuscaloosa in Week 5 as No. 4 Alabama is set to host No. 2 Georgia.

The Alabama-Georgia game was circled as a potential game of the year from the moment it was scheduled. GameDay made its Week 5 destination official with an announcement during Saturday’s show from Norman, Oklahoma.

Alabama and Georgia have had 6 epic meetings since January 2018. Only one of those meetings came during the regular season (2020).

Kirby Smart and Nick Saban first faced off in the College Football Playoff National Championship game for the 2017 season, a 26-23 thriller that went to the Crimson Tide.

The first 4 Saban-Smart bouts, including 2 SEC Championship Games, went to Alabama. Georgia had its breakthrough in the 2022 National Championship game for the 2021 season. After the Tide rolled to a 41-24 win in Atlanta, the Bulldogs got revenge with a 33-18 victory in Indianapolis to win the ultimate prize.

The most recent meeting between Alabama and Georgia came on Dec. 2. Saban’s squad came away with a 27-24 win for the SEC Championship and a spot in the CFP.

This time, Saban will be at the GameDay desk with Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit. The Week 5 showdown is quite a welcome to the SEC for Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer, facing 2nd-ranked Georgia in his first conference clash. DeBoer has the Tide off to a 3-0 start with wins over Western Kentucky, USF and Wisconsin. Georgia is also 3-0 with wins over Clemson, Tennessee Tech and Kentucky.

The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff, airing on ABC. Both teams are off in Week 4.
