The reporter who broke the story about allegations against a former assistant at Ohio State has further outlined what it could take for the university to part ways with coach Urban Meyer.
Shortly after Meyer was placed on paid administrative leave by the university, Brett McMurphy explained that the heart of the investigation would be what Meyer knew, and when he knew it.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer placed on administrative leave as school launches investigation after my report. If Meyer knew about domestic violence issues, he would have violated his contract & can be fired with cause https://t.co/fcxi8GKyeI

The domestic violence allegations are against former Ohio State assistant Zach Smith. The key element would be if McMurphy’s reporting confirms or opens new information about how aware Meyer was of anything beyond what led to Smith’s dismissal.
Meyer was asked multiple times last week at Big Ten Media Days about the decision to dismiss Smith, and what led to it. Those answers are also likely to be at the heart of the investigation.
