The Davey O’Brien Award on Tuesday announced that 35 quarterbacks were named to the Class of 2023.

Of the 35 selections made on Tuesday, 6 of them are SEC quarterbacks. The SEC QBs recognized include Carson Beck (Georgia), Brady Cook (Missouri), Jayden Daniels (LSU), Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss), Graham Mertz (Florida) and Jalen Milroe (Alabama). The Pac-12 also has 6 of its QBs on the list of this year’s award nominees.

The honor has been the nation’s oldest and most prestigious QB award. The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award was first issued in 1981. Former TCU QB Max Duggan was last year’s award recipient.

The last time an SEC QB won the Davey O’Brien Award was Bryce Young (Alabama) in 2021. Former Alabama QB Mac Jones (2020) and Young won it back-to-back years while with the Crimson Tide. Former LSU great Joe Burrow, in 2019, kicked off 3-straight years of SEC QBs winning the award.

Semifinalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 14, and the list will be narrowed to finalists on Nov. 28. This year’s award winner will be announced during ESPN’s The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 8. The Davey O’Brien Awards dinner is slated for Feb. 19.
