DFS Picks of the Week: Our top Underdog plays for CFB Week 1
By Adam Spencer
Published:
The college football season officially kicked off last weekend with Week 0. But this weekend is chock full of Week 1 action.
We’re in the midst of 5-straight days of college football, and excitement is high all around the country. For daily fantasy sports (DFS) enthusiasts, there are also plenty of picks to make.
Our DFS experts — Adam Spencer and Andrew Olson — will provide their favorite plays for college football and NFL games each week during the season.

Andrew Olson
Carson Beck, Georgia: Higher than 255.5 passing yards
Clemson is traditionally strong against the pass, but I like a big day for Beck. Last year, the Tigers allowed over 255 yards through the air against Florida State (289) and Kentucky (306). Beck is certainly capable of reaching those levels of production, and it feels more likely with questions about which running backs will be available for the Bulldogs.
Xavier Restrepo, Miami: Longest reception higher than 26.5 yards
Picking Restrepo to go “higher” served me well throughout the 2023 season, so I’m including the Miami veteran receiver in my Week 1 picks. As a long-suffering Florida football observer, I won’t be able to believe in UF defensive improvement until I see it with my own eyes completely sober. Restrepo getting 27-or-more feels likely to happen, probably on 3rd-and-25.
Eugene Wilson, Florida: Higher than 0.5 rush+receiving TDs
Wilson looks to be Florida’s WR1 following Ricky Pearsall’s selection in the NFL Draft. The Hurricanes are sure to be focused on containing Wilson, so I’m not sure about his yardage Saturday. An established playmaker, Florida will be trying to get the ball in Wilson’s hands as much as possible. Whether carrying the ball or catching it, I like him to get 1 across the goal line.

Quinn Ewers, Texas: Higher than 2.5 pass TDs
Top RB CJ Baxter is out for the year with an injury. While the Longhorns still have depth at the running back position, I expect Ewers to have a big Week 1 showing against Colorado State. Texas is trying to replace top receivers Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell, both of whom are now in the NFL. Ewers should get plenty of opportunities to throw the ball around as he tries to figure out who his new WR1 will be.
Donovan Edwards, Michigan: Higher than 83.5 rush yards
Blake Corum is off to the NFL, leaving Edwards as Michigan’s featured back. He showed incredible ability in his backup role while the Wolverines rolled to the national championship last season. QB JJ McCarthy is also gone, which means the Wolverines should rely heavily on their rushing attack in Week 1. I’m going with Edwards to post 84+ rushing yards against Fresno State.
Brock Vandagriff, Kentucky: Higher than 239.5 passing yards
Kentucky enters a new era at QB, with Vandagriff now under center after transferring from Georgia. The Wildcats get their season started against Southern Miss on Saturday night and I expect to see a heavy dose of the new QB. WR Barion Brown looks poised for a big year. He and Vandagriff should connect on a few big plays, which would lead to 240+ passing yards total in what should be an easy Kentucky victory.
