EA Sports has confirmed that College Football is coming back again next year.

The gaming giant announced Thursday that College Football 26 is set for a summer release.

College Football 25 was released on July 19, 2024. The game, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, was long in the making, with EA Sports first announcing a new college football video game in early 2021.

EA Sports had a long-running college video game from 1993-2013. There was Bill Walsh College Football and then College Football USA and later NCAA Football. The NCAA Football game was released up until 2013 (NCAA Football 14). The Ed O’Bannon lawsuit over college athletes being compensated brought a halt to the game.

The introduction of player compensation through NIL allowed the game to return as College Football 25. Many of the beloved features and playing modes from NCAA Football were updated for the current landscape of the College Football Playoff era. While previous games featured former players as cover athletes, current players were allowed to be featured as cover athletes under the new NIL rules.

Players received $600 and a copy of the game for opting into the game. Some players, such as College Football 25 cover athletes Quinn Ewers, Travis Hunter and Donovan Edwards, received additional compensation for their involvement.

There will be plenty of speculation as to which player(s) make the cover for College Football 26.
