Florida, Mizzou release join statement on Saturday night’s halftime fight

The first half of the Florida-Missouri ended in an onfield brawl on Saturday night. On Sunday, the teams issued a joint statement.

“The actions at the end of the first half of last night’s game do not reflect the values of our football program or University,” the statement reads. “We are committed to healthy competition and good sportsmanship. The clean play without incident in the second half is how we expect to represent both institutions and the SEC. We believe both programs will use this moment to learn from so that incidents like this do not happen.”

The halftime fracas happened after Florida QB Kyle Trask was hit late by Mizzou defender Trajan Jeffcoat after throwing an attempted Hail Mary on the final play of the second quarter. The officials did not throw a flag on the play. Dan Mullen ran onto the field in anger over the no-call, an action that escalated the situation and led to an onfield fight. Florida’s Zach Carter and Antwuan Powell, and Mizzou’s Tre Williams were ejected for the second half.

We’ll see what other punishments follow from the SEC after reviewing the conference reviews the tape.
