Florida State and Clemson are expected to remain in the ACC through at least the 2025-26 academic year, according to a report.

The schools, who have both filed separate lawsuits against the league, would need to notify the ACC by Aug. 15 if they intend to withdraw from the conference after the upcoming year. Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, there’s “no expectation” for that to happen.

That would mean Florida State and Clemson will play, at minimum, 2 more football seasons in the ACC. There was speculation last summer that Florida State could consider notifying the ACC of its intention to exit, but its ongoing lawsuit appears to have put those plans on hold.

Dennis Dobbs of CBS reported in June that FSU had no plans to announce anything before the Aug. 15 deadline.

Florida State or Clemson would need to agree to a settlement with the ACC in order to facilitate a departure from the league. Both programs are currently bound by the ACC’s Grant-of-Rights agreement, which runs through 2036.

FSU and Clemson have filed lawsuits against the ACC as they search for a pathway out of that agreement. The ACC’s annual media rights distributions are expected to fall far behind that of the SEC and Big Ten in the coming years.

Thamel’s follow-up report comes at the start of ACC Kickoff in Charlotte on Monday morning. ACC commissioner Jim Phillips will deliver a speech on Monday afternoon.
