Joe Lunardi bracketology update: Tennessee replaces Alabama as projected No. 1 seed
Joe Lunardi updated his latest bracketology projection on Sunday morning after an eventful slate of games on Saturday.
The weekend’s action was highlighted by a buzzer-beating win for Tennessee at home vs. Alabama. The Vols trailed by 3 points in the final minute, but ended up winning the game in regulation thanks to clutch 3-pointer from Jahmai Mashack at the horn.
The result of that game had significant consequences for the No. 1 seed race, per Lunardi. In his new update, Lunardi moved Tennessee up to the final 1-seed spot while relegating the Crimson Tide to a No. 2 seed.

In Lunardi’s previous update, Alabama was the No. 3 overall seed while Tennessee was just outside the 1-seed group at No. 5 overall. The Vols and Tide have similar résumés, so it’s possible that the result of this head-to-head matchup could ultimately decide who gets to be on the top line on Selection Sunday.
Getting to the No. 1 seed line would be very meaningful for the Vols. They’ve never been on the top line in program history. In addition to that being an accomplishment on its own, it would also give the Vols a theoretically-easier path to the Final Four.
Tennessee and Alabama each have 2 regular season games remaining before the start of the SEC Tournament.
