Joe Lunardi has issued an update to his NCAA Tournament Field of 68 projection following an eventful Saturday in college basketball.
On the bubble, Arkansas and Oklahoma both picked up big top-25 wins in SEC play on Saturday to help sneak in the field in the “Last 4 in” section. Vanderbilt also earned a big win over Ole Miss to improve its standing on the bubble. On the other hand, Wake Forest, San Diego State and Texas all suffered damaging losses that could prove to be decisive on Selection Sunday.
Lunardi also provided some thoughts on the top of the bracket. Duke overtook Alabama for the No. 2 overall seed, although both remain on the top line. Four of the top 5 seeds overall in the field are SEC programs: Auburn, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. The Blue Devils are the lone team from outside the SEC currently projected to earn a No. 1 seed.
Here’s a full look at Lunardi’s latest projection:
As for Sunday’s slate, Lunardi points out that Indiana has a chance to move closer to the Field of 68 with a win over Purdue at home. The Hoosiers are currently in the “Next 4 out” section of Lunardi’s bubble projection. This is IU’s final Quad 1 opportunity at Assembly Hall for the 2024-25 season. Indiana is 3-11 in Quad 1 games so far this year.
Selection Sunday is exactly 3 weeks away.
