Former Texas A&M QB Kellen Mond lead a 16-point sprint for the American team in the Senior Bowl on Saturday in Mobile, Alabama, including two touchdown passes, a 2-point run himself, and another 2-point conversion.
By late in the third quarter, Mond was 11-for-20 passing for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The first one was a pass into tight coverage that was a 15-yard pass caught in the end zone by Clemson’s Amari Rodgers. Then Mond connected with former Tennessee WR Josh Palmer for a 14-yard grab. That was Palmer’s second catch in the game, and by that point, he had four targets.
The SEC connection also came on the first scoring drive for Mond as he hit former South Carolina star Shi Smith for a pair of catches, including a 32-yard catch and run. Smith also made a diving grab over the middle.
Mond replaced Jamie Newman, the former Wake Forest QB who transferred to Georgia and then opted out of the 2020 season. Newman was 2-for-3 passing for 16 yards.
