Malachi Moore knew that Alabama would get every team’s best shot. He embraced that pressure of playing for the Crimson Tide.
Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, Moore looked back on the push for greatness under former coach Nick Saban.
“Under Coach Saban, it was definitely a lot – a lot of people could look it at as pressure,” Moore said. “But we look forward to that type of pressure. Going to the University of Alabama, we knew that we were going to be put on the biggest and brightest stages of them all.
“That’s why you choose to go to Alabama. To go there and perform in front of 100,000 people every time and get everybody’s best shot. Because we are everybody’s Super Bowl, national championship, every time we play no matter who we play. That gives us a different way to prepare because we can never slack because somebody’s always coming.”
Moore was with Alabama from 2020-24, using the COVID-19 waiver to play a 5th season. He spent the first 4 years under Saban but returned in 2024 when Kalen DeBoer took over. Moore said he believes defensive coordinator is maintaining Bama’s attitude on defense seen under Saban.
“That’s just the mentality we have at the University of Alabama, especially on defense. You look at the guys that come through the Saban era. Even now, with Coach Wommack, he’s still carrying on that legacy of being a tough, gritty defense.”
