Miami canceled Saturday’s game at Arkansas State due to Hurricane Irma, and another game has already been rescheduled due to the storm.

It was reported Saturday evening that next weekends matchup between Miami and Florida State in Tallahassee has been postponed due to Irma. The game has been moved from Sept. 16 to Oct. 7.

The ACC cited the impact of the storm as reasons to reschedule the game. ACC Commissioner John Swofford also pointed to a clear solution that helped the conference decide to reschedule the contest.

The ACC shared the official announcement:

“As important as football is to all of us, these kinds of events provide perspective when you’re talking about life-threatening events and the aftermath ramifications,” said Swofford. “It quickly became clear that it was in the best interest of our players, coaches and fans to reschedule next week’s Miami at Florida State game. Typically, it’s not easy to reschedule games, but in this instance, there was a clear path to adjust quickly and effectively.”

Miami’s matchup with Georgia Tech, originally set for Thursday, Oct. 12 has also been rescheduled to Saturday, Oct. 14.

It will be interesting to see if the Florida Gators game next weekend will also be impacted in some way. The Gators are set to begin SEC play next Saturday against the Tennessee Volunteers in their home opener.
