Nick Saban is complaining about the state of college football again.

It’s no secret that the former Alabama and LSU head coach – with seven national championships to his name – is no fan of the way that the sport operates now with the influence of NIL and the transfer portal.

Not long after Saban called it quits in January, he went to Washington, D.C., to testify to Congress about the current issues facing college football and college athletics as a whole. During that testimony, he called the transfer portal “a free agency system” and referred to NIL as “pay for play sort-of model.” Saban said then that “all the things I believed in for all these years, 50 years of coaching, no longer exist in college athletics.”

Since his retirement, Saban continues to have a voice in college football by working as an analyst for ESPN and appearing frequently on Pat McAfee’s daily show.

On Wednesday, McAfee and Saban commiserated about the current era of college football, which Saban referred to as, “a system that promotes self-indulgent behavior.”

The House settlement is coming soon and college athletics will continue to change and evolve. The only question is, will Saban continue to complain about it from his platform at ESPN, or just accept it and enjoy the football being played on the field?
