Nick Saban reveals new strategy for picking games inspired by his granddaughter
Nick Saban has not had the best luck picking games so far in 2024.
The legendary coach is in his first season on College GameDay, and he’s fit in seamlessly. The only problem is, Saban has been wrong more often than he’s been right with his game picks.
Fortunately, the coach has a new strategy thanks to his granddaughter.
“I haven’t been picking so well,” Saban lamented. “(My granddaughter) said Papaw, you’re not picking very well, I know what you should do. Whatever team you think is going to win, pick the other guy.”

“If it works, it works,” declared co-host Pat McAfee.
In Week 1, Saban went 4-5 on his picks. In Week 2, the coach ended with a 4-5 record once again. In Week 3, the coach is finally hoping to end with a positive win-loss record on his picks.
For the Week 3 slate, Saban chose Colorado, Florida, Oklahoma, Oregon, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Washington State, Missouri, Memphis, Miami (OH), LSU, and Alabama as his winners. The coach is hoping this slate will make his season-long record look a little better.
Saban is proof that you can be one of college football’s greatest minds ever and still not be the best at predicting winners.
If the coach has another losing week of picks, he can expect to hear it from his granddaughter once again.
