Rece Davis went through a range of emotion and thoughts when deciding on his Week 8 AP ballot, and he documented them on X/Twitter for all to see.
At first, Davis exclaimed that he was overwhelmingly impressed with Oregon’s win over Ohio State, claiming that the Ducks would take his top spot and that he looks forward to seeing both sides square off again at some point. That was Davis’s immediate emotional reaction to Oregon’s 32-31 victory late Saturday night.
Beat that team? You’re number 1 in my book. Congrats @oregonfootball and fans. @OhioStateFB still top 3. What a game. Sign me up for a rematch in Indy. That was sensational. Both teams.

But, apparently upon further thought, Davis reconsidered. He decided to leave Texas as the No. 1 team in the land following their 34-3 win over Oklahoma, saying that he considers them to be in a tie with Oregon if anything. He settled on a top 3 of Texas, Oregon and Ohio State.
I reconsidered my AP ballot. Agonized a bit. I left Texas #1. If I could rank them side by side I would. I went Texas, Oregon, Ohio State. Oregon worthy of top spot. Texas by a hair for me. But basically toss up. Both (and the Buckeyes) are elite.

The current portfolio’s of both teams are interesting and worth debating. The Longhorns have a pair of wins over ranked teams after beating Michigan in Week 2 and Oklahoma in Week 7. However, the Sooners dropped out of the AP Top 25 on Sunday and the Wolverines have fallen all the way to No. 24.
Meanwhile, Oregon’s win over Ohio State is the only ranked win for the Ducks, but that win (over a team currently ranked No. 4 in the country) is still better than any of Texas’s wins to this point in the season. The Ducks also beat an unranked Boise State team early in the season with the Broncos since rising to a No. 15 ranking coming out of Week 7.
