Normally, coaches don’t get to help pick a school’s new athletic director, but nothing is normal about the situation at Arkansas right now.

The school fired AD Jeff Long last week and will likely move on from coach Bret Bielema after the conclusion of a disappointing season.

One person who could have interest in the job is current Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, who has many connections to the state of Arkansas. According to an SB Nation report, Malzahn is intrigued by the possibility:

The Razorbacks will move on from head coach Bret Bielema after the season.

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn is interested in returning home to take that position once it’s open, though his status might depend on this week’s Iron Bowl. He’d also have a hand in picking Arkansas’ new AD.

Obviously, it doesn’t make sense for the Razorbacks to fire Bielema with only one week left in the season, but by this time next week, it could be official.

From there, it’ll be a waiting game for Malzahn, whose Tigers are still in the mix to make the College Football Playoff.
