Rivalry Week is here! The 2024 college football regular season wraps up with some of the best in-state clashes of conference and nonconference teams. The action got started on Friday with the Egg Bowl and Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.
In the Egg Bowl, Mississippi State led early, but Ole Miss rallied for a 26-14 win in Oxford. The Rebels are now 9-3 and sit at No. 14 in the College Football Playoff rankings, in need of some chaos to potentially find a way into the 12-team field.
No. 7 Georgia and Georgia Tech played an instant classic in Athens. Georgia Tech extended its lead to 27-13 with 5:37 left. After only scoring 13 points all game, the Bulldogs managed 2 touchdowns in the final minutes to force overtime. It took an epic 8 overtimes for UGA to come away with a 44-42 win, and almost certainly lock up a spot in the CFP.
That leaves us with 8 games on the Saturday SEC slate.
The renewal of the Texas and Texas A&M spotlight is in the spotlight – not only in the SEC, but nationally. The winner of Saturday night’s showdown at Kyle Field will play Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.
For the Aggies, it’s essentially a playoff game. With 3 total losses on the season, Texas A&M is No. 20 in the CFP top 25 and can only make the 12-team field by winning the SEC Championship. It’s going to take a win over the Longhorns to get to Atlanta.
The Palmetto Bowl is another rivalry clash with potential Playoff implications. South Carolina is No. 15 in the latest selection committee rankings. The Gamecocks would be sure to move up with a win over No. 12 Clemson. The Tigers, though, are just as motivated for a win, as the current first team out of the projected bracket.
Alabama is also on the outside looking in of the CFP bracket. The Crimson Tide need some chaos over the next couple of weeks, but Kalen DeBoer’s squad has to be focused on taking care of business in the Iron Bowl against an Auburn squad that took down Texas A&M last week.
Here’s the full Saturday schedule:
- No. 8 Tennessee at Vanderbilt – 12:00 p.m. ET on ABC
- No. 15 South Carolina at No. 12 Clemson – 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN
- Louisville at Kentucky – 12:00 p.m. ET on SEC Network

Enjoy all the great football and holiday weekend, everyone!
