There have been multiple incidents in recent years after upsets involving fans rushing the field crossing paths with opposing players leaving the field. The latest incident occurred Saturday night in Fayetteville, after Arkansas defeated Tennessee 19-14. A video posted to social media shows UT player shoving an Arkansas fan.

Arkansas fan Kristi Abbott shared a video that shows No. 21, worn by Tennessee defensive lineman Omari Thomas, shoving a male fan into a female fan. Both fans fell onto the field. Abbott’s video has been shared by other accounts on X, including Josh Teeter.

As one would expect, fans are tagging the accounts of Tennessee football, Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel and SEC commissioner Greg Sankey in hopes of disciplinary action being taken.

Many fans on social media are recalling the incident involving former Alabama wide receiver Jermaine Burton and a Tennessee fan on the field in Knoxville. Burton was not suspended. Former Alabama coach Nick Saban was criticized for saying Burton was “scared” and that reporters did not know the “whole story.” Thomas may say there’s more to the incident than what is shown in the brief video.

Whether the video results in disciplinary action remains to be seen. The incident is sure to renew the discussion about the safety of fans rushing the field.
