Texas and Oklahoma are gearing up to face off in the first-ever SEC version of the Red River Rivalry game in Week 7.

This is always one of the year’s most anticipated matchups, and 2024’s version should be no different. The top-ranked Longhorns enter the game at 5-0 overall and 1-0 in SEC play. The 18th-ranked Sooners enter at 4-1 overall with a 1-1 conference record.

Each Wednesday before a game, the SEC mandates teams release an initial availability report. As is typically the case at this point in the season, both teams are dealing with numerous injuries.

On the Texas side, the Longhorns have 3 players listed as out, 3 as questionable, and 2 as probable. The Sooners have 7 players out and 2 questionable.

The biggest unknown for Texas is star quarterback Quinn Ewers. Arch Manning has started the last 2 games as Ewers nurses an abdominal injury. Ewers is listed as probable, and it seems likely the signal-caller will return for this rivalry matchup. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday he feels good about where Ewers is at.

Manning has been serviceable in Ewers’ absence, but the Sooners represent a much tougher challenge than UL Monroe or Mississippi State.

For Oklahoma, the biggest concern is star wideout Deion Burks. Burks missed the Auburn game with a soft tissue injury and is listed as questionable for the upcoming matchup. He leads the offense in receptions (26), yards (201), and receiving touchdowns (3).

The status of Burks is especially important considering the Sooners are without 4 other wideouts who would all be part of the rotation if healthy — Jayden Gibson, Jalil Farooq, Nic Anderson, and Andrel Anthony.

These rivals have a storied past, with the Longhorns holding 63 wins to the Sooners’ 51. Oklahoma has won 5 of the last 6 meetings. The 2024 Red River Rivalry will kick off from the Cotton Bowl on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
