The craziness at Ohio State continued on Saturday, with reports surfacing that Texas coach Tom Herman was Brett McMurphy’s source in a story about former Ohio State assistant Zach Smith’s domestic-violence incident.
The report caused Smith to be fired and coach Urban Meyer to be placed on administrative leave, and details continue to come out, even a week later.
On Saturday, Ohio State insider Jeff Snook reported that Herman was McMurphy’s source and also that Herman and his wife, Michelle, helped pay for some of Courtney Smith’s legal fees. Herman quickly responded to Snook’s report, denying that he was McMurphy’s source:
Via spokesman, Texas coach Tom Herman tells me about the Jeff Snook story: "It is absolutely untrue. Neither I, nor anybody in my family, has ever communicated with Brett McMurphy about the situation at Ohio State.” 1/2

Herman continued by confirming that he and his wife had paid for some of Smith’s bills, citing his wife’s friendship with Smith:
Herman also addressed the Snook claim that he and Michelle helped pay Courtney Smith's legal bills: "In March of 2017, my wife assisted her friend Courtney Smith during a time of financial need. We have not provided any financial assistance since then.” @statesman

Every day (and seemingly every hour) this story gets crazier and more convoluted. It’s going to take some time to get to the bottom of things, it seems.
