When it comes to playing college football, it’s like father, like son for the Fisher family. Trey Fisher, the oldest son of Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher, will follow in his dad’s footsteps of playing quarterback at a small college. Trey signed with Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday.

“It was a very good day for him,” Jimbo told reporters during his National Signing Day press conference. “He had some choices of some schools and it was fun to be a dad and be on the other end of that. Let him make choices and sometimes you’re on this end of it so much you’re able to sit back.”

After Jimbo left Florida State for Texas A&M, Trey stayed in Tallahassee, Florida, completing his high school career at Godby. Trey, who measures 5-11, 175 pounds, threw for 2,121 yards and 22 touchdown passes as a senior.

Jimbo sees a promising future for his son at UT Martin.

“I think he’ll have a great career there,” Jimbo said. “I’m very proud of him and love him to death. He a man who’s very mature, above his years. He really is and I’m very proud to be his dad.”

Jimbo played at Salem College (1985-86) and then Samford (1987), then a Division III program now competing at the FCS level, under Terry Bowden.
