Tyler Van Dyke reportedly out for the season after suffering injury vs. Alabama
Tyler Van Dyke will miss the remainder of the 2024 season with the injury he suffered against Alabama on Saturday, according to a report.
That news was first reported by Colten Bartholomew on Monday afternoon. Concern for VanDyke’s status was high after he had to be carted off the field on Saturday in Madison. He was later able to return to the sideline, but he was on crutches with his right leg in a brace.
The report does not share specifics regarding Van Dyke’s injury, but it does say that MRI results confirmed that Wisconsin will be without its starting quarterback for the rest of the 2024 campaign.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that Van Dyke tore his right ACL and that a timetable for his recovery “isn’t clear yet.”
It’s a massive blow for a Wisconsin team that was hoping Van Dyke would have a resurgent season after transferring in from Miami this offseason. Instead, he’ll be on the sidelines for the rest of the year.
Van Dyke completed his first 5 passes on Saturday vs. Alabama before being forced to exit. Braedyn Locke entered the game in Van Dyke’s place and struggled to lead Wisconsin’s offense in the same manner. He finished 13-of-26 for 125 yards and 1 touchdown.
Locke is expected to serve as Wisconsin’s starting quarterback moving forward while true freshman Mabrey Mettauer gets promoted into the backup role.
Wisconsin is off in Week 4 before facing USC on the road in Week 5.
