Do you believe in miracles?

You’ll never forget where you were on Friday night.

With the NCAA’s upset-rich history, a No. 16 seed had never beaten a No. 1 seed … until Friday night. No. 1 seeds had previously been 132-0 against No. 16 seeds, but the University of Maryland Baltimore County (who?!) changed all that.

UMBC beat the No. 1 overall seed Virginia 74-54, and it wasn’t even really close. It was a complete domination, and UVA had no answer in the second half. The Retrieves out-rebounded the Cavaliers 33-24, and UMBC had the best player on the floor in senior guard Jarius Lyles. Lyles scored a game-high 28 points on 9-11 field goals.

No. 16 UMBC advances to face No. 9 Kansas State on Sunday.
