USFL Draft Day 1: 11 former SEC players were selected in first 12 rounds

The USFL Draft began on Tuesday, with the 8 teams in the newly formed league getting together to participate in the unique draft format.

Round 1 and Round 12 featured quarterbacks being taken. Rounds 2-4 were for defensive ends, Round 5-7 for offensive tackles and Rounds 8-11 were for cornerbacks to be drafted.

As you can see below, the first day of the USFL Draft featured 11 former SEC players hearing their names called:

  • Round 1, pick 1: Shea Patterson, QB, Michigan/Ole Miss — Michigan Panthers
  • Round 1, pick 2: Jordan Ta’amu, QB, Ole Miss — Tampa Bay Bandits
  • Round 2, pick 9: Davin Bellamy, DE, Georgia — New Orleans Breakers
  • Round 4, pick 31: Adam Shuler, DE, Florida — Tampa Bay Bandits
  • Round 5, pick 38: Paul Adams, OT, Mizzou — New Orleans Breakers
  • Round 5, pick 42: Tyler Catalina, OT, Georgia — Tampa Bay Bandits
  • Round 6, pick 45: Calvin Ashley, OT, Auburn — New Jersey Generals
  • Round 6, pick 48: Avery Gennesy, OT, Texas A&M –Houston Gamblers
  • Round 9, pick 72: Derrick Jones, CB, Ole Miss — New Orleans Breakers
  • Round 9, pick 74: Trae Elston, CB, Ole Miss — New Jersey Generals
  • Round 11, pick 91: Bradley Sylve, CB, Alabama — Philadelphia Stars

Wednesday’s portion of the draft will featured wide receivers, safeties, centers, inside linebackers, guards, defensive tackles, running backs, outside linebackers, kickers, punters, tight ends and long snappers. We’ll see how many additional SEC players get picked on Wednesday!
