Walmart is the nation’s largest retailer, and sports merchandise is an important part of what the corporate giant sells.
Especially in the south, where SEC football reigns supreme, it’s not too shocking to see that many SEC schools are among the top revenue providers when it comes to sports merchandise.
According to AL.com, five SEC schools are among Walmart’s top-10 teams when it comes to sports merchandise and apparel sales:
- No. 1 — Alabama
- No. 3 — Tennessee
- No. 4 — Arkansas
- No. 5 — Georgia
- No. 8 — Kentucky
It’s surprising to see Arkansas and Kentucky on this list over schools like Auburn, Florida and LSU, but Walmart was founded in Arkansas and a lot of the Kentucky sales are probably basketball related.
However, it’s no surprise to see Alabama holding onto the top spot, as the recent run of Crimson Tide dominance has been a lucrative one for many apparel businesses.
