After offensive guard Jordan McNair passed away after falling ill at a team workout in May, the Terps decided to honor him during the first play of the 2018 season.

On the first play from scrimmage against Texas, Maryland lined up in a missing-man formation, with a player absent at right guard. The Terps did not snap the ball and took a delay of game penalty, which Texas coach Tom Herman respectfully declined.

Texas was aware of Maryland’s plan before the game, and it was a nice show of sportsmanship by both teams.

Maryland players will also wear helmet stickers with McNair’s No. 79 for all of 2018.
