The South Carolina Gamecocks have been improving defensively under coach Will Muschamp, but they still have some holes on that side of the ball.

They hope they’ve addressed at least one of those concerns with the addition of an experienced defensive back who will come over as a graduate transfer from Rice.

S J.T. Ibe announced his decision to join the Gamecocks on Instagram on Saturday night, as you can see below:

According to GamecockCentral.com, he said he is excited to compete on the big stage of the SEC:

“I love the environment of the coaches and players,” Ibe told GamecockCentral.com. “I want to play the biggest football and compete to win an SEC championship.”

In three years at Rice, Ibe played 28 games and had 121 tackles (six for a loss). He also defended eight passes and forced two fumbles.

Ibe will have the chance to compete for a starting spot, and he provides some experience to the Gamecocks’ secondary.
