Shane Beamer is returning to Columbia.

After Louisville’s Scott Satterville and Louisiana’s Billy Napier both announced they were not going to take the South Carolina head coaching job, there was only one remaining candidate among the reported leaders for the position as the Gamecock coaching search ran into the weekend.

That man, Beamer, will be the next head coach at South Carolina according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.

Beamer is the son of legendary Virginia Tech coach, Frank Beamer. Beamer is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where he played for his father’s Hokie program.

Beamer previously served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at South Carolina during Steve Spurrier’s time in Columbia.

During his first run in Columbia, Beamer was credited with helping recruit many of the star players during the team’s three-year run of 11-win seasons.

Some of the players signed by the Gamecocks during that time include Jadeveon Clowney, Stephon Gillmore, Alshon Jeffery, Marcus Lattimore and Connor Shaw.

In recent seasons, Beamer has worked as an assistant coach within Kirby Smart’s Georgia coaching staff and as an assistant on Lincoln Riley’s Oklahoma coaching staff.
